Chapter Four

Well That Was Easy

“Amelia, are you ready?” I had been waiting for her to finish packing in Jason’s living room. Gina was waiting in the car so we could go shopping, she was afraid if she saw Jason she would kill him so I opted for her to just stay in the car.

“I’m coming mommy!”

“I had a lot of fun with her.” Jason said.

“Good, I’m glad. “

“So what do you have planned for the weekend.”

“Um, I’m going fishing.”

“You don’t know how to fish.” He laughed

“Joseph is teaching me.”

“And Amelia? He’s going to meet her?” I nodded.

“Okay.” He looked away as if he was angry.

“What?”

“Nothing I just um- nothing really it’s just becoming…real.” I nodded.

“I know what you mean.” Except I don’t really feel that way. It was like God had some wicked plan for me to catch Jason cheating, because if I didn’t, we would have never gotten a divorce and being with Joseph wouldn’t have been an option.

“I’m ready.” Amelia came bounding out of her room.

“Okay, say bye to daddy.” She dropped her bag and hugged him tightly.

“Nice to finally know you daddy.” She patted his stomach and grabbed her bag. I laughed at her dark humor, although she was right. Jason laughed too, even though it was practically an insult.

“I’ll see you next weekend?” I nodded and left, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

“Hi auntie Gina!” Amelia said happily when she got in the car.

“Hey girl, how’s it going?” I pulled out of the parking spot and got on the highway to go to the mall.

“It’s going.” I rolled my eyes at her corny joke.

We were silent for the rest of the ride, we just enjoyed the music and each other’s company. We stopped at Children’s Place first, I know I can buy her more but I try really hard not to turn her into the brats that she goes to school with. Not that she is one, and I don’t think she will be one, but I wont get her whatever she wants at no cost.

“Can I wear a two piece?” She asked me as we searched through the racks.

“Um, no. There are some really cute one pieces here.” She pouted for a moment but then she started looking. She’s such a good girl, I thought I would have to force her.

“How about this one?” Gina picked out a red polka- dotted one piece.” Amelia shook her head and kept looking. Gina pretended to be hurt but then she kept looking.

“So this boy, what does he look like?” Gina asked Amelia.

“He’s normal looking. Brown hair, brown eyes, button nose.”

“So he’s cute?” Gina pressed.

“I guess, a lot of girls at school like him. But that’s just because he’s rich, he lives on the boulevard.”

“Wow, so do you think he likes you?” Amelia laughed.

“No, he doesn’t talk to me.”

“But he invited you to his party.”

“That’s just because he invited the whole class.”

“Hey kid, look at me.” I bent down and looked Amelia right in the eye.
